Cake Smash!

Posted on

Our cake smash sessions are always great fun for both the parents and the baby themselves. They are a fantastic way to celebrate your child’s first or second birthday.

The session is everything you get from a regular shoot but at the end we bring in a yummy giant cupcake and let the little ones tuck in!

Parents always enjoy watching their child eating and smashing their way through the cake. And for the children themselves, the joy on their faces is something we delight in capturing! When else are they encouraged to make a mess and eat as much cake as possible?!

To help prepare for your shoot, we’ve compiled a few frequently asked questions by parents:

What should my child wear?

We suggest keeping clothes as minimal as possible so just a nappy works really well. Tutus, nappy covers, hats, bow ties etc. are all perfect and really add to the final image.

The cake smash session can get really messy so it’s a good idea to have a spare outfit for you too. No one wants to leave covered in cake!

For family shots in the first part of the shoot, try to coordinate your clothes and avoid very busy patterns and bold logos.

Do we supply the cake?

Yes we do. Our cakes are made by a local bakery and come topped with masses of buttercream. If you do prefer, you can bring your own cake. If you decide to do this, please take inspiration from previous cakes used. It needs to be visual so the bigger and more colourful the better.

What if my child has allergies?

That’s no problem; we can have a cake made that is suitable. Please let us know when you make your booking so we can speak to the bakery.

Can I bring my other children?

Yes of course. The first section will be a standard photoshoot so feel free to bring along your other children and even your pets!

You may want to bring separate outfits for this part of the shoot and some props to help personalise your photos.

How long will the shoot last?

The shoot will last up to 1hr.

Will you supply props or should I bring my own?

We have various props here at the studio but we always encourage you to bring along your own to personalise the photographs.

Can I have a Cake Smash photoshoot on a Saturday?

No unfortunately these are only available on weekdays. We recommend you do these sessions in the morning when your baby is likely to be full of energy and ready to get stuck into the cake.

So, come along and join us for a really fun, messy, once in a lifetime experience that we guarantee will produce some images that you will cherish in years to come!
